Long ago in Central Java, there was a kingdom ruled by a giant king named Prabu Baka. He was cruel and often harmed people. However, he had a beautiful daughter named Roro Jonggrang. One day, a powerful prince named Bandung Bondowoso fought against Prabu Baka. With his supernatural strength, Bandung Bondowoso defeated and killed the giant king. After the battle, he saw Roro Jonggrang and fell in love with her. He asked her to marry him.
Roro Jonggrang was very sad because Bandung Bondowoso had killed her father. She did not want to marry him, but she was afraid of his power. To refuse politely, she gave him a very difficult condition. She said, “I will marry you if you can build one thousand temples in one night.” Bandung Bondowoso accepted the challenge. With the help of his genie soldiers, he worked quickly. By midnight, 999 temples were already finished. Roro Jonggrang became worried because the task was almost complete.
Roro Jonggrang then made a trick. She asked the village women to burn straw and pound rice pestles to make the sky look red and noisy like morning. The genies thought the sun was rising, so they stopped working. The last temple was not finished. Bandung Bondowoso was very angry when he realized Roro Jonggrang had tricked him. He cursed her, saying, “You will become the thousandth temple!” Suddenly, Roro Jonggrang turned into a stone statue.

From that day, people believed the temples built by Bandung Bondowoso became the Prambanan Temple complex. The statue inside the temple is known as Roro Jonggrang. The story teaches us that honesty is important, and trickery can bring bad consequences.
